There was an old woman.

"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children she didn't know what to do."

I now have 3 children, well 4 in total if you count hubby and 2 crazy dogs. Two gorgeous boys, a beautiful baby girl, a loving husband, a dopey boxerXridgeback and a hypo border collie. My family is complete, I feel blessed and will be forever grateful for the family that I have. Despite this, it poses a tough question "How many children should we have?" of course the answer to this differs for everyone, including partners.  There are so many things to consider when answering the question,  I think the biggest thing for us is being financially stable, often going past 3 kids means a bigger car, possibly a bigger house and I'm sure you would need to grow an extra arm aswell.

I would love to have more children but we just can't afford it and the money tree hasn't bloomed again this season. This saddens me somewhat - the fact that there is no money tree in our backyard and that I will never be pregnant again or have any new little family members. I know I should be looking at the positives, I have 3 beautiful healthy children that I can now raise and enjoy as I watch them grow and the fact that I am able to conceive and carry a baby at all. Needless to say I am very lucky and blessed, unfortunatley too many couples face infertility issues or medical problems during pregnancy.

I'm wondering if I am the only one who feels this way ??  We could easily conceive another baby but would it be responsible ??  If we were to have more, when would enough be enough??

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,
she had so many children she didn't know what to do;
She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

I wonder how many she had?

As I have previously said "I am going to spend more time enjoying my kids and let other things slide"  Well this week I think I have succeeded, and I am loving it. We haven't been going out to parks or playgroup or big activities as much as we usually do, this tends to happen when you have a newborn but the time we have been spending together has been quiet and relaxing (well as relaxing as it can be with a 4 year old, 12 month old and 3 week old) I am enjoying it alot and this week I have realised how many good things I have in my life.

Therefore I figure I should stop contemplating silly insignifigant things like whether or not three children is right for us or not and get on with the wonderful life we have made. In reality, we can not predict the future nor do we know what will be thrown our way, for better or worse we will take it as it comes.

Life will slow down one day, but for now ...

I started "spring cleaning" today and have so far only managed to pull stuff out and make the house looked trashed. I better keep going.

  1. It's a good point. How many children is ever enough? I don't think any woman would ever get tired of that gorgeous newborn thrill, but they do grow up, become toddlers and more of a handful, cost money and that's just it...where do you stop?
    I wonder how many that old woman did have? You've got me wondering now!! And no more talk of spring cleaning, you hear me? Unless you're coming to do my house, then that's different, lol!

  2. oh so true Jackie, I love the idea of having more children but wonder whether it really is the right and responsible thing to do. After all there are already so many people in the world.... your post made me think of a link up called Thankful Thursday hosted over at http://www.katesaysstuff.com/2011/08/thankful-thursday-record.html
